“Harry Potter” star Rupert Grint, best known for his role as Harry’s best friend Ron Weasley, is expecting his first child with actress Georgia Groome.

USA Today reports that the 31-year-old Grint and the 28-year-old Groome have announced through their representative, Clair Dobbs, that they have a child on the way. It is the first child for both of them.

Other than the announcement, there were no details provided about the pregnancy other than a call to respect the couple’s privacy.

The pregnancy announcement caught the public and “Harry Potter” fans by surprise as nobody even knew the couple was dating. But, as Cosmopolitan reports, Grint and Groome have been together since 2011, or almost a decade now.

Obviously, the relationship has been kept extremely private since then, with only a number of sighting of the couple hinting that they were together.

Last year, the couple were snapped having lunch together. Matching rings that the couple wore during that lunch sparked marriage rumors that the couple still has not confirmed.

Grint starred as Ron Weasley in all eight films of the very successful “Harry Potter” film franchise. Aside from that career-defining role, he was also in the films “Driving Lessons,” “Cherry Bomb,” “Wild Target,” and “Moonwalkers.” He has also had a successful television career, with roles in “Urban Myths,” “Snatch,” “The ABC Murders,” as well as ongoing shows “Sick Note” and “Servant.” Grint has the lead role in “Sick Note” and is one of the main characters in “Servant.”

Groome, on the other hand, is best known for her role as Georgia Nicholson in “Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging.” She has also appeared in the films “The Holding” and “Papadopoulos and Sons.” Her television credits include “The Bill,” “Lewis,” and “Up the Women.”

The pregnancy announcement was probably prompted by the pictures of the couple out and about in North London, with Groome’s baby bump prominently on display. The couple was shopping for supplies as there is still an ongoing lockdown in the United Kingdom brought about by the coronavirus.

While it is unclear how far along Groome is in her pregnancy, it looks like she may be giving birth during a pandemic as cases of the coronavirus only continue to rise. According to the Apr. 10 situation report of the World Health Organization, there are now 1,521,252 confirmed cases of the coronavirus globally. The number of people around the world who have died from COVID-19 and its complications is now at 92,798.

In the United Kingdom, there are now 70,272 confirmed COVID-19 cases, according to The Guardian. The coronavirus has now caused the death of 8,958 people in the United Kingdom.
