Joe Biden is widely touted as the president America needs at the moment, especially amid a still-raging pandemic. The people of America are hoping the Democratic presidential nominee will restore the country's run-down economy and restrict the spread of the deadly pathogen that already claimed millions of lives across the country.

Biden assured he would be leaving no stone unturned in an attempt to protect the country amid the coronavirus pandemic, even if that required shutting it down. Clips of him making these remarks during an interview with ABC News surfaced on Friday, while the interview is slated to air on Sunday night.

As expected, his comments have received mixed reactions from his supporters and opponents. Fox News medical contributor Dr. Marc Siegel told Tucker Carlson Tonight that Biden's willingness to put America through another costly economic shutdown if elected seems very disturbing because of a combination of coronavirus and seasonal flu.

Noting that they aren't even predicting a severe flu season, because in the Southern Hemisphere, Siegel told Carlson that they don't see that happening. Even if that's ignored, the costs of imposing another lockdown can't be overlooked, he added.

He offered a slew of problems that are likely to crop up if another lockdown is implemented. He mentioned everything from children struggling to take care of their teeth, or get eyeglasses, lack of nutrition, mental health-related issues, to operations being put off and insisted that more people will die of heart disease and cancer due to extended lockdowns than will ever die of coronavirus.

He also attributed a potential surge in depression and suicide to extended lockdowns. During an ABC News interview that will air on Sunday, World News Tonight host David Muir asked Biden if he was the president in Jan. when the country is expected to combat the virus and flu together as scientists predict, would he be willing to shut America down again.

Noting that it is impossible to get the country moving unless the virus is stopped from spreading, Biden said he is prepared to do whatever it takes to save the lives of the people of America. The former vice president pointed out the fundamental flaw in Trump's administration's handling of the virus, noting that it should have focused on fixing the virus to ensure the country moves forward, the economy grows and people return to their jobs.

Muir asked if the scientists suggest another lockdown, would he be willing to do that. "I would shut it down. I would listen to the scientists," Biden responded.
