Versatile English actor, Dev Patel has shed light on the essence of 2019’s comedy-drama The Personal History of David Copperfield based on Charles Dickens' classic.

The film has been featuring the headlines since the middle of 2019, and now since it’s rescheduled to release in the US on 28 August – David Copperfield is buzzing one more time.

Patel who is playing Copperfield has shared his understanding of the role, the actor said, the featurette is about a character who is on the lifelong search of the meaning and way of life – someone who is relatable as a human being. The 30-year old also said that the story will forever be so relevant especially the  “fluctuating fortunes of the characters which is really fascinating to observe.”

According to Patel, the coming of the age story is for everyone - today and forever. In addition to the lead actor, the person helming the movie Armando Iannucci has also shared his take of the Dickens’ masterpiece. The director said that he is a huge Dickens fan and he solidified his plans to make a movie about him some six years back after re-reading David Copperfield.

The book buffs who have delved into the creative world that Dickens is popular for constructing may expect how much of a delightful story David Copperfield would be – especially because it’s believed to be based on his own life as the character’s life mirrors the experience of Dicken’s career.

Besides Patel playing the titular role, the film also stars Peter Capaldi, Tilda Swinton, Hugh Laurie in the supporting roles.

It’s surprising to know that despite all that the actor said about the movie and the character, he didn’t know a bit about Dickens’ novel until he got the email about the role. Interestingly, Patel thought the movie was about a magician of the same name. Well, it seems the actor has since developed pretty well knowledge about the writer now.

The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on 5 September 2019. The US distribution rights to the feature were acquired by Searchlight Pictures post the UK release on 24 January 2020. The US release has been postponed due to coronavirus thrice, but now it’s finally coming out on 28 August. According to critics, fans, and contributors – The Private History of David Copperfield is an unmissable treat for everybody.
