Queen Elizabeth paid a touching tribute to her only daughter, Princess Anne one week before her 70th birthday.

On the royal family’s official Instagram account, the queen shared a throwback photo of a 3-year-old Princess Anne.

In the snap, Princess Royal is wearing a sleeveless dress, and she also has a huge smile on her face. She is holding a doll in her hand.

“Princess Royal undertakes a busy schedule of engagements and is involved with over 300 patronages linked to her wide range of interests, including sport, agriculture and animals, science, medicine and healthcare, international development, education, sailing, and the military. Over the next seven days, we’ll be taking a look back at each decade of The Princess’s life,” the caption read.

Another photo shows Princess Anne riding her horse. The photo was taken when Princess Anne was just 13 years old and a student at Benenden.

While at the boarding school, Princess Anne took her O levels and A levels, while competing for the school in the equestrian events.

In another photo, it was revealed that Princess Anne attended her first State Opening of Parliament in 1967.

Two years later, she visited the Children’s Shelter in Edinburgh as part of her first royal engagement.

Several other photos of a young Princess Anne were also uploaded online. One of the snaps shows her being cradled by the queen. Another snap shows her posing beside her older brother, Prince Charles.

In the third photo, a young Princess Anne is helping the queen tend to her horse. And a fourth photo shows her standing beside her dad, Prince Philip.

The next series of photos of Princess Anne that will be uploaded on the royal family’s Instagram account tomorrow will feature images of her in the 1970s.

Queen Elizabeth and Princess Anne have a wonderful relationship today. However, reports revealed that they were quite distant from each other decades ago.

Prince Charles and Princess Anne, who was born just a few years apart, reportedly, grew up under the care of their nannies. After all, the queen and Prince Philip were busy with their royal duties.

Years later, the royal couple had Prince Andrew and Prince Edward. And they became more involved with their two youngest children than Prince Charles and Princess Anne.
