Dolors Sala Carrio, mother of Manchester City football club manager Pep Guardiola, has died from the coronavirus, reports The Guardian.

In a statement released by the football club, they said they are “devastated” by the death of the 82-year-old, who contracted the coronavirus in Barcelona, Spain. The club said that they had “heartfelt sympathy” for Guardiola and his family and friends. Manchester City chairman Khaldoon al-Mubarak also assured Guardiola that he has the entire City family’s love and support.

The Arsenal football club and the Manchester United football club also offered their condolences, with the Manchester United Twitter account sending out heartfelt condolences to Guardiola.

The Barcelona football club said that they were “deeply saddened” by the death of Guardiola’s mother. Guardiola led Barcelona to a European Cup win in 1992 as team captain and two more wins in 2008 and 2009 as team manager.

Bayern Munich, which Guardiola coached for three years, tweeted that everyone at the football club was mourning with him.

Aside from Pep Guardiola, Dolors Sala Carrio is survived by three other children. Pere is a player agent who represents Pep. Francesca, one of her daughters, is a politician and the representative of Catalonia to the Nordic countries.

Spain has been one of the hardest hit by the coronavirus in Europe, according to Metro. The outlet says there are 135,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in the country. Guardiola even donated €1 million to his home country to aid in the purchasing of medical equipment necessary to fight the disease.

Other prominent personalities to have died because of COVID-19 include dialect coach and actor Andrew Jack, actor Mark Blum, celebrity chef Floyd Cardoz, and British comedian Eddie Large.

Those who have tested positive for COVID-19 include CNN anchor Chris Cuomo, TV host Andy Cohen, singer Placido Domingo, and actors Ali Wentworth, Idris Elba, Kristofer Hivju, Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, and Olga Kurylenko. British prime minister Boris Johnson is also positive for COVID-19 and is now in an intensive care unit.

A nationwide lockdown was previously implemented in the United Kingdom, resulting in the closure of restaurants, schools, and bars. This was in a bid to lower the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country, which has now reached 51,608, according to The Guardian. Confirmed deaths from the coronavirus in the United Kingdom have reached 5,373.

The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 worldwide is now 1,210,956 people, according to the Apr. 6 situation report put out by the World Health Organization.
