The upcoming survival thriller is going to mark the return of the French cinema in the United States after 15 years. The O2 is going to be producer Vincent Maraval's first biggest film under the latest banner called Getaway Films.

Melanie Laurent has been a part of several blockbuster movies such as 6 Underground and Inglourious Basterds along with Tenet in which she was seen as playing the title role. Laurent will be seen in Netflix's upcoming movie with a unique name, O2.

For director Alexandre Aja also this movie will mark the return from full-featured French-language movies. The production work of the movie is already under development. The French Dispatch star Mathieu Amalric and Play star Malik Zidi will be seen playing prominent parts in the movie.

The Netflix film will also become the first movie for the production company that was started in 2019 by Brahim Chioua and Vincent Maraval, who are co-founders of Wild Bunch. Noëmie Devide is also part of the company that will help them to focus on the French genre.

O2 storyline revolves around a young woman who gets her consciousness back in a cryotherapy unit. The title character wonders how she ended up in the medical unit while she runs out of the oxygen supply. The actress will be seen trying to figure out her life before secluded in this situation.

“After a period spent in lockdown, a project which in its core explores confinement and claustrophobia was a no-brainer, almost a necessity. I am very enthusiastic to collaborate with Wild Bunch and Melanie Laurent and to begin a beautiful creative adventure with Netflix,” Aja revealed.

Along with Gregory Levasseur, even Aja is a co-producer. The Getaway Films associate and Wild Bunch International's CEO, Maraval said thanks to the online streaming platform for being able to bring the French director, Aja back.

Maraval recalled when they have worked together on Piranha 3D and now, thrilled to work with Aja again on this aspiring film. Maraval also disclosed that O2 has given an opportunity to explore the genre which French movies are keeping away from.

Gaëlle Mareschi and David Kosse who is a creative manager and vice president at the international original film at Netflix, respectively release a statement. They mentioned being extremely delighted to have French director to helm the movie that involves a French cast such as Laurent.
