Ever since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, Marvel fans have been salivating at the thought of the mutants of the X-Men being introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While no plans have been announced with regards to X-Men films, musician and actress Janelle Monáe has already put her name forward as a candidate to play the mutant Storm.

Empire reveals that the 34-year-old singer and actress told them in an interview that she had long wanted to play the weather-controlling mutant. She called the opportunity to portray Storm a dream and also acknowledged the other actresses that have previously portrayed the mutant.

In the same interview, Complex also notes that Monáe shared a story about the Black Panther cast members Chadwick Boseman, Lupita Nyong’o, and Michael B. Jordan visited her Wondaland studios in Atlanta, Georgia while she was working on her 2018 album Dirty Computer.

Monáe, who is also known for her love of science fiction and other geeky interests, further showed her knowledge by speculating if Storm would be introduced in the second Black Panther film. In the comic books, Storm and T’challa have been married and divorced.

Should Monáe snag the role, she would be the third actress to portray Storm on the silver screen. Previously, Academy Award winner Halle Berry portrayed her in X-Men, X-2, X-Men: The Last Stand, and X-Men: Days of Future Past. Alexandra Shipp, on the other hand, portrayed Storm in X-Men Apocalypse and Dark Phoenix.

The possible introduction of the X-Men to the Marvel Cinematic Universe isn’t the only Marvel-related project that has been getting some buzz. Back in May, it was revealed that Sony Pictures is working on a secret Marvel movie.

Rumored to be a female-centered project, television director S.J. Clarkson has been tapped to head the project which may center on the character Madame Webb. In the comic books, Madame Webb suffers from a disease called myasthenia gravis, requiring her to constantly be connected to a life support system.

Should that movie push forward, it will be an additional Marvel film for Sony Pictures, which already has three movies lined up. Morbius will be premiering on Mar. 19, 2021, while the sequel Venom: Let There Be Carnage will premiere on June 25, 2021. The third Spider-Man film will be on Nov. 5, 2021.

Of course, these premiere dates may still change as the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic does not seem to be stopping any time soon. According to the July 7 situation report from the World Health Organization, there are now 11,500,302 confirmed COVID-19 cases worldwide. The number of people that have died from COVID-19 is now at 535,759 people.
