The film and entertainment industry continue to find their way around the new normal as the global coronavirus pandemic continues unabated across the world. A number of industry events have already been rescheduled, with the latest being the MTV Movie & TV Awards.

Variety reports that the MTV Movie & TV Awards, which are usually held around this time of the year, has now been tentatively moved to the month of December. This is a different move when compared to other award shows like the BET Awards, which had instead opted for a virtual edition of their awards show.

The 2019 MTV Movie & TV Awards were filmed in Los Angeles on Jun. 15 and then aired on the channel on the 17th, with Zachary Levi acting as the host. Some of the big winners during last year’s ceremonies include Avengers: Endgame, Game of Thrones, A Star is Born, and The Handmaid’s Tale.

However, MTV’s other big award show seems to be pushing through as usual. According to TVLine, the MTV Video Music Awards is still going to push through in August, with the Barclays Center in Brooklyn as a possible venue. According to an MTV spokesperson, they are coordinating with the government and health authorities to ensure the health and safety of everyone who will be attending.

Another high profile award show and film festival that has had to reschedule and rethink the way it does things is the Cannes Film Festival. It had initially moved to June before it was forced to seek out alternatives since the global coronavirus pandemic made it impossible to continue the event in its current form.

Currently, the Cannes Film Festival is partnering with other film festivals like the Venice Film Festival to screen the films selected for this year’s festival under the label “Cannes 2020.” Even the Venice Film Festival itself is looking at digital alternatives it can provide foreign press who intend to cover their film festival.

According to the Jun. 9 situation report provided by the World Health Organization, there are now 7,039,918 confirmed COVID-19 cases around the world, with 108,918 of those being new cases. Deaths caused by COVID-19 is now at 404,396, with new deaths making up 3,539 of that total.

COVID-19 deaths are now at 110,925, with 550 of those being new deaths.
