The deep friendship between Selena Gomez and Francia Raisa, which once led Raisa to donate a kidney to Gomez, seems to have hit a rough patch. Observers have noted an apparent distance between the two in recent years, with Raisa's father hinting that the falling out might be linked to Gomez's drinking habits.

Raisa, who made the life-saving kidney donation to Gomez in 2017, recently suggested that they are now in "different phases of their lives". But according to Raisa's father, their conflict might have been sparked by Gomez's alleged alcohol consumption, post the kidney transplant.

In a video clip translated by HuffPost, Raisa's father noted that there was a disagreement when Selena was reported to be drinking. He said, "[Francia] told her that she didn't give her the kidney for her to drink, to damage it."

The U.K.'s National Health Service (NHS) guidelines suggest kidney recipients can consume alcohol in moderation. The guidelines recommend no more than 14 alcohol servings weekly and discourage daily consumption.

Gomez addressed speculation about her drinking in a TikTok video shared in November. The video featured Dr. Dawn Bantel defining "heavy drinking" and Gomez responding with a seemingly shocked expression. Dr. Bantel's definition clarified, "The CDC defines heavy drinking as 15 or more drinks a week for men, and eight or more drinks per week for women." Gomez captioned the video as a joke.

When Raisa was questioned about her relationship with Gomez by a TMZ paparazzo earlier this month, she conspicuously avoided answering. When pressed about the 'Rare' singer, Raisa deflected, saying, "Sunday is so fun ... I'm Francia, I'm hanging out with my dog."

Raisa's reluctance to discuss her friendship with Gomez extended to the topic of organ donation as well. While she stated that she would discuss organ donation, she clarified that it was not something she actively promotes.

In the wake of the interview, Raisa reported receiving a barrage of negative comments from Gomez's fans, with some resorting to offensive language, as reported by Radar Online.
