One year after his sudden passing in the Dominican Republic, the cause of Ray Liotta's death has been disclosed. The "Goodfellas" actor passed away due to heart and respiratory issues, as reported by TMZ.

The outlet obtained documents that identified pulmonary edema (fluid in the lungs), respiratory insufficiency, and acute heart failure as the specific causes of Liotta's death. Atherosclerosis, a condition where plaque builds up in the inner lining of arteries, was listed as an underlying factor.

Liotta passed away in his sleep at the age of 67 in May 2022, while filming "Dangerous Waters" in the Dominican Republic. He is survived by his 24-year-old daughter, Karsen, and his fiancée Jacy Nittolo, who accompanied him during filming.

In an Instagram tribute following his death, Nittolo wrote, "Ray and I share a deep love that I will cherish in my heart forever. We laughed daily and we were inseparable. The chemistry was wild in the best way. He was everything in the world to me and we couldn’t get enough of each other. The kind of real love that one dreams of."

The couple was spotted holding hands in California, seemingly in good spirits, just days before the "Shades of Blue" actor's untimely passing. They were photographed as they left the Italian eatery, Spruzzo.

In February 2023, Liotta was posthumously awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. His daughter Karsen attended the ceremony on his behalf, expressing her pride and love for her late father.

During her speech, Karsen said, "I'm so touched to be accepting this honor on behalf of my dad. I couldn’t be more proud of him. He was a one-of-a-kind actor and the best friend, brother and father anyone could have asked for. I lucked out with you."

She further added, "If you have a Ray in your life, you’re lucky. I love you so much. Thank you for your work and the imprint you left on me and all of those who love you. Everyone deserves a Ray in their life."

The revelation of Ray Liotta's cause of death provides closure for his family, friends, and fans who continue to remember and honor his exceptional work and the impact he left on their lives.
