Eric Braeden, the long-time star of The Young and the Restless, recently disclosed that he has been diagnosed with bladder cancer. Despite the tough battle ahead, the 82-year-old actor remains determined to overcome the disease.

During his treatment for prostate issues and recovery from a knee injury, doctors discovered "high-grade" cancer cells. Throughout his six-week immunotherapy, Braeden continued to play Victor Newman on the show.

"I'm happy to be able to go to work," Braeden stated. "That, I enjoy. It distracts me. I love acting. I love knowing that I entertain people." He also assured his fans that he would beat the disease, saying, "This bastard ain't going to get me. I'm going to get it. I'll be in top form again soon."

Initially misdiagnosed, Braeden decided to share his health information publicly to raise awareness for other men. He emphasized the importance of regular examinations and urged men not to be afraid of their health issues.

"I just want men to know not to be scared of that. I want them to know to have your prostate examined, have your bladder examined, have your colon examined," he advised. "Just acquaint yourself with it and be open about it, so that way you take the fear out of people... A lot of men, me included, would not want to know about it. That's nonsense."

Braeden is now undergoing weekly bladder infusions to stimulate his immune response and kill cancer cells. He is currently in the third week of a six-week infusion process, after which he will have a six-week break from treatment. "At the moment," he shared, "I feel pretty good."

Despite his cancer battle, Braeden continues to work full-time on the daytime drama and maintains an optimistic attitude. He credits his background in sports for his perseverance, saying, "I'm from the world of sports. I don't give up easily. I know a good attitude helps. This is manageable."

The actor expressed gratitude for the support he has received from family, friends, and fans, noting that the experience has shown him how much people have in common. "It's heartwarming," he said. "We have more in common as human beings than what separates us... We're all similar."

The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS.
