Meghan Markle's choice to stay in the U.S. with her children while Prince Harry attends King Charles' coronation has prompted varied responses on social media.

On Wednesday, Buckingham Palace and the Sussexes' representative confirmed that Prince Harry will be present at his father's coronation on May 6 without his wife. Markle will stay in California with their two children, Prince Archie, 3, and Princess Lilibet, 1.

Many social media users supported Markle's decision, as they felt she would not be welcomed at the event due to the reported tensions between the Sussexes and the royal family.

One Twitter user wrote, "She made a good decision. Why would you want to go where you're not welcomed!"

Another user commented, "That sounds [like] a sensible decision. It's just a shame that their children will not be present to see their grandfather crowned king. It takes a lot of pressure off the [royal family] though."

Others expressed pride in the Duchess, with one person stating, "Proud of my duchess...staying away from this utter joke and spending time with [her] children and friends."

However, not everyone was pleased with Markle's decision, as they felt it would deprive Archie and Lilibet of the chance to support their grandfather and see other family members. Some suggested it would have been better if Markle attended the event or allowed the children to go with their father.

One Twitter user said, "Taking care of the kids is the worst excuse. [It] prob[ably] would have been nice for Charles to see all his grandkids on the day, so why not let them go with their dad if she doesn't want to go[?]"

Another remarked, "This sort of snub of a massive family do will be hard to come back from. I feel sorry for the children, [it] won't be every day your grandfather becomes king of a nation."

Others questioned the decision's logic, with one person stating, "This is a historic family event... It makes no sense to miss this... It's not as if there is a shortage of nannies?"

A fourth user emphasized the importance of the children's presence, adding, "Meghan should go for her children, [and] they should be included."

Prince Harry has also faced criticism for announcing he would attend the coronation after making explosive allegations against his family in the Netflix docuseries "Harry & Meghan" and his memoir "Spare."

One user wrote, "The royal family will still need to keep their distance from Harry! He cannot be trusted, but [I'm] glad he will be there to support his father! It's a win-win!"
