Vladimir Putin, the Russian President, has often been labeled as paranoid by his critics. Now, a former officer in Putin's elite personal security service who defected last year has revealed shocking details about the Russian leader's secretive lifestyle, including a hidden train network, identical offices in various locations, and personal bunkers.

Gleb Karakulov, a former Russian engineer who fled Russia with his family last October, was responsible for secure communications during his time working for Putin. In an interview with The Guardian, Karakulov claimed that Putin has become a war criminal and is "pathologically afraid for his life."

According to Karakulov, Putin spends most of his time in a bunker at the Russian Embassy in Kazakhstan, equipped with a secure communications line. The Russian president allegedly avoids using mobile phones and relies solely on information from those close to him. Karakulov stated that Putin is essentially living in an "information vacuum."

Describing the president as having lost touch with the world, Karakulov said Putin has been living in an "information cocoon" for the past few years, primarily residing in his bunker-like residences. He added that Putin surrounds himself with a "barrier of quarantines" and values only his own life and the lives of his family and friends.

Karakulov detailed how firefighters, food testers, and engineers accompany Putin on his trips abroad, and explained that all staff members must undergo a two-week quarantine before any event. Currently living in an undisclosed location and fearing for his safety, Karakulov felt compelled to speak out against the war in Ukraine despite the risks involved.

The Dossier Centre, a London-based investigative group funded by Russian opposition figure Mikhail Khodorkovsky, confirmed Karakulov's identity and credentials, according to The Associated Press.

Various conspiracy theories have arisen concerning Putin's increasing paranoia as the conflict between Russia and Ukraine continues. Reports have suggested that he uses body doubles and may be ill. In recent public appearances, Putin has maintained significant distance from diplomats, attributing this precaution to Covid-19 concerns.

Despite ongoing speculation about Putin's health and some footage that appears to show him struggling with motor control, no verified reports have confirmed any health issues.
