Wendy Williams reportedly had several conversations with the producers about the titular show’s cancellation. However, the execs stated that she “appeared to be having the discussion for the first time” every talk or meeting with her.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, long-time producers of “The Wendy Williams Show” Ira Bernstein and Mort Marcus recalled the time they had the conversations with the talk show host. It came after their production company, Debmar-Mercury, made their plans official (February 22, 2022) to end the material with its 13th season that spring.

Reportedly, months after not hearing from Williams, Bernstein’s phone rang, and the Shock Jockette is said to have wondered about the show’s end. As noted, the call was made “in late February, or maybe… early March.”

The publication quoted Ira Bernstein, claiming, “I said, ‘We have not heard from you, and we had to make a decision.’ We should have made one in November, but we pushed it to January or February, and by then, it was like, ‘Make a decision or lose the time period.’”

It continues, “She said, ‘Well, what’s going to air at 10 o’clock?’ I told her, ‘Sherri’s going to air at 10 o’clock.’”

Wendy Williams consequently allegedly asked if she could go at 11, causing Bernstein to tell her they would “love to work” with her, adding that “there are lots of ways and lots of buyers.”

But, the exec reportedly told her she needed to “come back,” and they needed to know that she was OK. He is also said to have added, “You can’t just call after nine months and say, ‘I’m ready.’”

The publication noted that a version of the exchange took place several more times in the months that followed. As claimed, there were “multiple phone calls” with both Mort Marcus and Ira Bernstein and even a sit-down lunch in Manhattan.

But, despite the repeated discussions over the matter, the execs alleged that “each time,” Wendy Williams “appeared to be having the discussion for the first time.”

Elsewhere in THR’s piece, published Wednesday, it is reported that the communications between the talk show host and her then-manager, Bernie Young, ended around Thanksgiving.

During the same period, producers Mort Marcus and Ira Bernstein were reportedly “no longer able to reach [Williams], either.” They claimed that her cellphone would continue to ring, with the outlet noting, “in fact, it was not clear she still had a phone at all.”

Wendy Williams has yet to release an official statement regarding the latest reports.
