Photographers did not always reportedly want shots of Kate Middleton smiling. A columnist once said that the paparazzi even threw insults to get a negative reaction from the then-girlfriend of Prince William.

Cheat Sheet unearthed Daniela Elser’s piece, detailing her claims. She noted that the future Queen Consort’s life before becoming a royal was “much, much less fun.”

The royal expert stated that the paparazzi would hurl insults at the young Middleton to obtain a negative reaction from her. She shared that “certain quarters of the media” insulted, “chased,” “harassed,” “dogged,” and “harangued” the Duke of Cambridge’s then-girlfriend.

The publication quoted the piece for NZ Herald, writing, “Some paps used to yell things, like ‘b**ch, w**re, s**g, look this way!’ at her to try and get a reaction.”

It continues, “A photo of Kate making some terrible face or losing it was far more valuable than her just going about her business.”

But, despite all the insults, Elser deemed Kate Middleton “remarkable” for her “poise and grace under fire.” She recalled that the now-senior working royal had always kept her composure in front of the camera.

The royal expert pointed out that there are no videos of the Duchess of Cambridge “crying, hysterically yelling at the press, or crumpling” as anyone probably would.

Earlier this year, another report about Kate Middleton during her pre-royal years surfaced. Marie Claire noted that it was about how she was once left “terrified” when the paparazzi allegedly chased her at late-night hours.

The outlet consequently quoted royal editor Roya Nikkhah, claiming, “A friend tells me Kate was even chased late at night by several men in a car,” adding that she found the experience “terrifying.”

The same publication also unearthed the assertions made in the documentary, “Chasing The Royals,” wherein Prince William’s 2007 move to protect his then-girlfriend is discussed.

It is said that the Duchess of Cambridge was hounded by the paparazzi during that year, particularly on her 25th birthday. As explained, there were rumors of the royal-born Prince proposing to the young Middleton, causing the paparazzi to wait outside her flat in Chelsea.

Following what happened, it is revealed that an “angry” Duke of Cambridge issued a statement in a bid to stop the harassment toward his then-girlfriend.

The public would recall that Kate Middleton is not a royal by blood. She and Prince William only met at the University of St. Andrews in 2001.

Reports said that the pair started as friends before becoming romantically involved. The relationship went on for years before the royal-born Prince asked for her hand in marriage in 2010.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge tied the knot in 2011. They now share three children, who are direct heirs of Queen Elizabeth II.
