Matt Lauer has allegedly been breaking the bank to impress his high-maintenance girlfriend.

In its June 13 issue, National Enquirer claimed that Lauer has been using up all his savings since he hasn’t been earning since losing his job in 2017. But his relationship with his girlfriend, Shamin Abas has caused him to lose his savings quicker.

“Matt’s savings are dwindling and he’s trying to hold on to his most valuable assets even if it hurts. But Shamin likes living the high life, and it’s getting in the way of his cost-cutting. He’s in a real quandary. He’s desperate to downsize his lifestyle, but he’s also desperate to keep Shamin from leaving him because she thinks he’s a cheapskate,” the source said.

The source also said that after Lauer lost his job in 2017, he also needed to cough up $20 million following his divorce from Annette Roque in 2019.

“Matt had to cough up $20 million in the divorce settlement and that wasn’t easy, but he had no choice. Annette had him by the short hairs. The divorce bled him dry and with no income coming in, he knows he’s got to economize,” the source said.

The source also claimed that Lauer’s friends abandoned him after he was accused of sexual misconduct years ago. And even his neighbors are all scared to go near the former host.

“It’s going to take a lot of schmoozing to get back in people’s good graces, but Matt’s sure he can do it with Shamin’s help. She’s got a lot of PR contacts and that’s another reason why he’s desperate to hold on to her even as she bleeds him dry,” the source said.

However, one should take the tabloid’s claims with a grain of salt.

As of late, there’s no indication that Lauer’s girlfriend is using him for money. Since Abas also has a lot of PR contacts, this means that she’s also quite well-off.

And even though Lauer was found guilty of sexual misconduct years ago, it’s not true that his neighbors have been avoiding him like the plague.

There’s also no proof that Lauer is struggling financially even though it is true that he lost his lucrative job in 2017. By the looks of it, Lauer has other sources of income and this is what he has been using to get by.
