Scream 5 is definitely gonna happen and one of the original cast members will be back.

According to Hollywood Life, none other than David Arquette who plays Sheriff Dewey Riley will reprise his role in the fifth installment of the hit comedy slasher film. His role started as a deputy sheriff who was actually stabbed by Ghostface in the first installment. It was earlier revealed by director Wes Craven that his character was supposed to die in the finale of the first movie. But they also filmed an additional scene where he survived. They wanted to check if his character would be liked by the est audience. So when they did, they kept him alive.

It was a good thing too as Dewey Riley was actually in all 'Scream' movies. In the latest one, he has been promoted already to Sheriff at Woodsboro.

While David appears excited to return to his role after almost ten years since the last installment was shown, it is unknown whether any other cast members will sign up for 'Scream 5'. Fans are eager to know if Neve Campbell, who plays Sidney Prescott and is the lead role in all four films, will be back. She did admit in an interview last May 6 that she has been conversing with the people, but it is hard to solidify plans in light of the pandemic that is happening right now.

Another character that fans might be wondering about is that of Gale Weathers, played by Courtney Cox. She plays the role of Dewey's wife and has also been in all the movie installments. Of course in the latest movie, she and Arquette were still married. Now that they are divorced, it is a question on whether she would still be willing to reprise her role.

With the death of Wes Craven last 2015, the movie will now be headed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, who wrote 'Ready or Not'

Cinema Blend reports that Kevin Williamson, who wrote the original series is excited about the coming sequel and claims that 'Ready or Not' was his favorite horror movie so he is excited for what they will be bringing to the series.

When news of the sequel came about and who was going to be at the helm, some faithful fans had concerns. But with the vote of confidence coming from none other than Williamson, fans can be hopeful that the franchise is in good hands.
