The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has not reportedly disclosed the entire truth regarding the slap incident, involving Will Smith and Chris Rock at the Oscars. This comes as sources alleged that the former was not asked to leave the event even after smacking the latter on stage.

Page Six reported that the claims first emerged in TMZ on Thursday. Insiders, who were said to be present at the ceremony and “witnessed various conversations,” asserted that officials were split about how to proceed with the situation.

Some allegedly wanted the “King Richard” actor to leave. However, others did not, adding that a consensus was never actually reached.

The same sources “with direct knowledge” about the situation, also, told the outlet that Will Packer told Smith “he could stay.” As noted, he is the producer of the night’s show on Sunday.

The allegations surfaced after the Academy released an official statement about the debacle. Apart from revealing its next course of action, it pointed out that “[Will Smith] was asked to leave the ceremony,” but he “refused” to do so.

It did, however, acknowledge that they “could have handled the situation differently.”

Page Six, later on, shared that a rep for the Academy did not immediately respond to its request for comment on Thursday with regard to the conflicting reports.

Earlier on Friday, Oscars producer, Will Packer broke his silence about the latest claims. He told “Good Morning America” that he had not “been part of” any discussions or conversations asking Will Smith to leave the event following the slap incident, as per a separate report from Page Six.

As stated, co-producer Shayla Cowan approached Packer and told him they were about to “physically remove” the “Focus” star. However, he “prevented” it from happening because “he had not been included” in those talks.

The producer claimed that he “immediately went to the Academy leadership,” who were present at the event. He spoke to them about Chris Rock not wanting to let Smith leave the ceremony.

Packer continued that he was “advocating what Rock wanted” at the time, and that was “not to physically remove Will Smith.”

As the story continues to develop, new details have since emerged across media platforms. In one of New York Post’s latest published reports, it stated that Chris Rock was not asked whether Will Smith should be removed from the Oscars.

Multiple sources reportedly revealed that it was Will Packer who made the call and allowed the “King Richard” star to stay. “They never consulted him,” adding that the producer allegedly made the final decision.
