Kate Middleton and Prince William broke up twice during their 10-year relationship.

Following their first break up, the Duchess of Cambridge reportedly gave Prince William an ultimatum. Middleton agreed to get back together with Prince William on one condition.

According to royal author Katie Nicholl, the future queen asked Prince William to stop contacting his former love interest, Isabelle Anstruther Gough Calthorpe.

Following the ultimatum, Prince William and Middleton’s ran smoothly. However, they called it quits once again after the former opted to not spend the holidays with the latter’s family.

At that time, the future king was serving in the military so it became difficult for him to stay in contact with Middleton. Rumors also swirled that Prince William's eyes were wandering during this time.

Middleton felt as though they don’t have enough time to spend together so, in April 2007, she decided to end things with Prince William. But it didn’t take the couple very long to realize that they were meant to be together.

In June of the same year, Prince William asked Middleton if they could be together again and she said yes. Three years after their second split, the couple got engaged. And on April 29, 2011, they finally tied the knot.

Meanwhile, when Middleton and Prince William moved in together, they made sure to have one important item in their home. Nicholl said that the coupled had a champagne fridge installed in their house. Middleton also set up the kitchen windows with red and white curtains.

After living together while studying at the University of St. Andrews, Prince William and Middleton went their separate ways post-graduation. It was only after they tied the knot that they moved in together again.

Nicholl also talked about the Duchess of Cambridge’s biggest insecurity. She said that before she became a member of the royal family, Middleton was never confident about her looks. She didn’t also think that she was pretty.

In fact, even though Middleton was the one that dated Prince William in college, she never gloated about it. Nicholl said that the Duchess of Cambridge was quite insecure about her looks. But she was actually very sweet and very shy,” Nicholl said.

But over time, Middleton has become increasingly confident in her role and in her appearance. Today, she has been dubbed as one of the prettiest members of the royal family.
