"The Ellen DeGeneres Show" has been on a downturn in the wake of toxic workplace allegations. The showrunner, Ellen DeGeneres has been one of the most loved talk show hosts in the history of American television – and the much-appreciated bit was how good she was with people. Despite being a very huge celebrity herself, DeGeneres never overshadowed a single celebrity on her show, big or small.

All that behavior and attitude was enough for all of the show fans to believe that she was naturally genuine and nice. However, during the pandemic, some of the show contributors and staff brought to light the toxicity behind the cameras that’s rampant on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."

The show has made a return in September after a long break due to pandemic, but the reason of worry for DeGeneres and show-makers is that the show is nowhere close to where it was before in terms of popularity and ratings. Even worse, the ratings continue to go downhill.

Another major reason for the lack of enthusiasm among fans is that the 62-year-old is forced to address the allegations in her monologue which was earlier nothing but a straight set of fun lines. As per some figures released by Variety, the first week of the show garnered an average viewership of 1.7 million which is a bothersome decline of 37% from the same period last year.

Though all of the blame can’t go to the negative words running against the show, some of it also goes to restrictions due to the coronavirus – the good ol’ vibe is somewhere missing. The show has been popular for a long time, not only among fans but also among Ellen’s fellow celebrities.

As per PR expert, Eric Schiffe who is also the chairman of Reputation Management Consultants, the constant drop in the rating is much because of people who didn’t like the way Ellen approached the accusations.

In an interview with Metro, the expert said, “Ellen’s entitled early charade to deny, deflect and defend her alleged actions and failures have undoubtedly affected her ratings. We will witness an ever-dwindling audience because of the colossal collapse of her crafted image concocted to be cherished, calm, and comfort her TV fans only to have it unmasked as a sham.”

Ellen DeGeneres has said that she is a good actress but not so good to hide toxicity for so long. She has had a very long and profound career, she may figure out a way with her experience.
