Prince Harry couldn’t be happier now that he’s paid off his and Meghan Markle’s debt from the renovations of Frogmore Cottage.

According to YOU magazine, the couple’s debt was their last tie to the royal family. And now that they’ve paid it off in full, they could enjoy their new lives in the United States further.

In an article for Daily Mail, royal editor Richard Kay talked about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s previous debt.

“For more than a year, it has been the millstone around Prince Harry’s neck. He saw it as a chain that shackled him and Meghan to the land of his birth, inhibiting their efforts to be truly free of the royal family – and crucially – of their media critics,” he said.

Royal expert Ingrid Seward said that Prince Charles will finally be able to breathe easily because Prince Harry and Markle have already paid off their dues. As such, they will no longer depend on him financially.

“The British public will be relieved too and so, I imagine, are Harry and Meghan. So, it’s a win-win situation,” she said.

But even though Prince Charles will no longer be giving Prince Harry and Markle financial support monthly, he will continue to give them a private contribution for the time being.

“It won’t be revealed how much and what it’s used for, but it’s believed to be around $2.5 million. It wouldn’t be a surprise if it went into meeting the bill for security,” Seward said.

However, there are also claims that Prince Charles already gave Prince Harry and Markle a huge chunk of his contributions this year. As such, next year would be an entirely different story.

Still, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex don’t have anything to worry about. After all, they recently signed a multiyear deal with Netflix, which means that they will have at least one steady source of income for the next few years.

Following their Megxit, Prince Harry and Markle agreed to have their terms reviewed by Queen Elizbeth after one year. According to royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, the monarch can change the agreement in the next six months.

“It is important to bear in mind that Harry and Meghan are a unique case. They are non-working royals, provided the arrangement which the Queen brokered at Sandringham is renewed before the end of next March,” he told Express.
