Michelle Obama opened up about romance, marriage, and love as Conan O'Brien joined her podcast. The former first lady invited the former late-night host to talk about choosing a spouse and love interest carefully.

Obama emphasized how important it is to pick someone who is the right person than just getting married at a specific time. The 57-year-old host considered the marriage scenario and explained that men get ready for marriage much later in life when they find themselves being intellectually and emotionally stable.

He admitted it was the same case when he found his wife, Liza Powell at the age of 39 and got married in 2002. Obama responded and said that it was the same for her when it comes to marriage, unlike other girls at her age.

"I think, a man's inclination to wait and to kind of go out there and search and get himself ready, I think is a good instinct that more young women should think about," the 56-year-old said. In fact, she compared picking up a love interest in picking up her favorite basketball team. She said the approach towards choosing a partner should be similar.

She went on and explained that if someone is choosing a team, they choose people that will win with you, and of course, people want everyone on the clan to be a strong player. She explained that you don't wish to have any weak person or someone who can get dominated easily.

The former lady further said that nobody wants to be with a loser and wish to have someone on your team who knows how to shoot, defend, and not just keep dribbling the ball. Similarly, if you look at wedlock like a team then you will automatically choose a partner who is a winner.

Obama mentioned LeBron and said that everyone should opt for someone like him. As expected, O'Brien joked that he is thinking of marrying the basketball player now. Obama laughed off and said that Powell is James for him.

The duo went on and spoke about the secrets of long-lasting marriage and how to develop a strong relationship with their respective spouses. Obama said that it requires a lot of determination and hard work to create that bond.

Michelle Obama in Her Own Words author said that no one is perfect and marriage is difficult. However, Obama said that there is no magical way to build a life with someone and everyone has to struggle in their own way.
