Rumors were not rumors or it can be said that rumors came true. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have made their intentions clear that they are looking for long-term stability in the US through a job in the entertainment industry.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have inked a multi-year deal with streaming company Netflix. No surprise, it’s the work the Sussexes were looking for, they are set to be producing projects.

Under the deal, the royal pair will produce documentaries, scripted shows, and feature films for the streaming platform.

For the last few weeks, the Sussexes had been contacting a string of production houses presenting their plans and ideas to bag big projects. The pair even got in touch with NBC, so there were strong expectations around their first deal that might be with the NBC or NBC-helmed streaming platform Peacock. Hence, a deal with Netflix has come to many as a surprise.

According to reports, the deals are similar to one that Barack and Michelle Obama signed in the year 2018. The Obamas acquired the superhit American Factory from Sundance. The feature won the Academy Award for the best documentary of the year.

Just like that, Netflix is reputed to have collaborated with some of the most influential personalities across the globe. Last year, Netflix joined hands with Bill Gates for an in-depth documentary titled Inside Bill's Brain - which delves into his endeavors towards Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Quite in line with most, it’s a double-sided deal – streaming platform seeks to capitalize on the tremendous popularity of the Sussex pair, and on the other side, the royals have a huge streaming platform to present their ideas to the world - and also with the deal, they can bring some much-needed financial stability into their newly set-up LA household.

The co-CEO and chief content officer of Netflix, Ted Sarandos is hopeful that the partnership with the royals will add value to the catalog. In a statement, Sarandos gave a little idea of what the collaboration may spawn in the near future.

“Harry and Meghan have inspired millions of people all around the world with their authenticity, optimism, and leadership. We’re incredibly proud they have chosen Netflix as their creative home – and are excited about telling stories with them that can help build resilience and increase understanding for audiences everywhere.”

In a joint statement, the Sussexes have said that they are willing to making "inspirational family programming" that touches the lives of all.
