This year’s Emmy Awards are coming closer and closer and preparations are being made to ensure that the broadcast is a success. This year’s broadcast is going to be especially challenging because of the global coronavirus pandemic, but the show’s producers have revealed how they plan to overcome it.

Variety reports that Done+Dusted, the company producing the show for the third year in a row, has revealed that they are doing everything in their power to ensure the health and safety of all its participants while at the same time ensuring the award ceremony maintains its prestige.

One plan that producers have come up with is to have cameras head to where the nominees are since they will not be in the award show venue to enforce social distancing rules mandated by health officials to help stem the spread of the coronavirus.

However, doing so will require hundreds of live feeds, which is why producer Reginald Hudlin said they made the decision to hold the award show at the Staples Center rather than in the Microsoft Theatre where the Emmy’s are usually held.

The venue was chosen specifically because it could handle such a huge number of feeds as the Staples Center usually hosts sports events.

E! Online also detailed other changes to this year’s awards, such as the abandoning of the dress code since nominees will not be in the venue and will likely be in their homes or hotel rooms.

Producers have not yet decided on what to do with presenting the awards, as driving over to where the nominees are is not feasible since some of the nominees are outside of the United States. Producers are also thinking if it should be necessary for the winners to have the Emmy statue in their hands when they give their speech.

Of course, the Emmy Awards are not the only show that has had to change the way it operates due to the global coronavirus pandemic. The Venice Film Festival has also shared some of the pandemic-induced changes it has introduced.

For one, the film festival has lowered the number of films participating, as well as scrapping a section for the meantime. Screenings of participating films will also be held in theaters implementing social distancing as well as in two outdoor arenas.

Organizers will also be utilizing digital technology to allow overseas press to take part in the festival even if they are not physically at the location.

Currently, the coronavirus is still an ongoing issue, especially in the United States. According to the latest update from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there are currently 5,682,491 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country. Deaths caused by COVID-19 are now at 176,223 people.
