Sony continues to build its stable of Marvel films as it has announced another movie being developed in their Spider-Man universe, accompanied by the announcement of a director in charge of the project.

Deadline reports that J.C. Chandor, known for his work on Triple Frontier, A Most Violent Year, and Margin Call, is being eyed to direct the film adaptation of the famous Spider-Man story, Kraven the Hunter. The film joins two other Marvel films being developed at Sony, one about Madam Webb and another about Spider-Woman.

If Chandor accepts the job, he will be directing a film written by The Equalizer screenwriter Richard Wenk. The story will likely be adapted from the popular story Kraven’s Last Hunt, which is considered by many critics as one of the best Spider-Man stories.

The Chandor announcement comes just a day after Olivia Wilde was revealed to be directing a Marvel movie for Sony. While no outright confirmation has been made, it is speculated that the film Wilde will be directing will focus on the Spider-Woman character.

Spider-Woman has been the title of a number of Marvel comic book characters over the years, such as Jessica Drew, Gwen Stacy, and Mary Jane Watson.

Earlier in the year, S.J. Clarkson was also revealed to be directing a female-centered Sony Marvel movie. Madame Webb seems to be the popular choice among fans as the subject of Clarkson’s upcoming Marvel movie.

Actresses speculated to play Madame Webb include Charlize Theron and Amy Adams. As a character, Madame Webb may prove challenging as she suffers from myasthenia gravis, a disease that requires her to constantly be hooked up to a life support system that looks like a spider web.

Should all three films go on to be produced, Variety says they will be joining Sony’s growing list of Marvel movies using different characters in Spider-Man’s universe. The other movies Sony plans to release include Morbius, Venom: Let There Be Carnage and the third Spider-Man film.

The release date for the third Spider-Man film is tentatively set on Nov. 5, 2021. On the other hand, Venom: Let There Be Carnage is scheduled to be released on June 25, 2021. Finally, Morbius is planned to be released on Mar. 19, 2021.

Of course, how soon these films start shooting depends on the still ongoing global coronavirus pandemic. According to the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 dashboard, there are currently 22,492,312 confirmed COVID-19 cases worldwide. Deaths caused by COVID-19 are now at 788,503 people.

In the United States, there are currently 5,506,929 confirmed COVID-19 cases, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s latest update. There are now 172,416 people that have died from COVID-19 in the United States.
