The YouTube star and late-night host Lilly Singh has arrived at the primetime at NBC. The broadcasting company has ordered a sketch comedy series titled Sketchy Times with Lilly Singh for those with an affinity for parodies. As of now, only 2 episodes have been ordered – however, depending on the performance, the quantum may be raised.

The interesting element about Sketchy Times with Lilly Singh has to be its non-resemblance with other primetime shows. For example, Singh’s own house will be the shooting location with minimal crew. As obvious for current times, necessary COVID-19 protocols will also be in place to ensure a safe working environment.

As the title suggests, the show will feature Singh performing parodies of a string of characters. The sketches will be done in the Singh-typical style i.e. with the help of musical dramas.

Per NBC, each episode will run on a specific theme, something that Singh fans are well-acquainted with through her YouTube vlogs.

Undoubtedly, this is a big opportunity for Singh to establish herself as a primetime material. Singh’s last show A Little Late with Lilly Singh did well in terms of garnering the attention but proved to be a dud when it came to holding it. However, the success was impressive enough for NBC to renew the show for a second season back in May. Due to the pandemic, the date of release has not yet been finalized, but it's expected to be around by the end of the year.

Back to Sketchy Times, obviously, the Canadian comedian is well up on the importance of primetime shows and their appeal - she posted screenshots of the big news from a variety of online publishers and wrote a big caption to express her gratefulness. The caption reads, “I have been preparing for this moment for the past ten years. This is the first step… And of course, as always, infinitely grateful to all of you for the support…”

The comedian first rose to prominence with YouTube vines that often showed the dispute between an outgoing girl and her Indo-Canadian low-key family. Thanks to the story beats of her scripts, she has more the 36 million followers across YouTube and other digital platforms.

In addition to performing, Singh will also serve as the writer alongside Keisha Zollar, and Sean O’Connor.  The entertainment world is no stranger to Singh’s skills as a writer, so there is a sort of assurance on the creativity of themes and engagingness of the stories.
