Dan Fogelman revealed that the fifth season of This Is Us is going to reflect the real world ongoing crisis. Yes, like many other series that have integrated the ongoing pandemic in their storylines, even This Is Us will follow the footsteps.

Fogelman who created the show disclosed on Aug. 16 through social media as a fan tweeted the question directly. The fan asked if the upcoming season will mention about the COVID-19 and the problems related to it, the 44-year-old writer and producer replied, Yes.

The Producers Guild of America Award nominee said that he is proud of the writers’ team and tagged the This Is Us Writers' twitter handle. Several popular shows like Grey's Anatomy confirmed that they will integrate the ongoing COVID-19 situation in their upcoming seasons, fans were curious to know if This Is Us will go ahead on the same lines.

However, it is confirmed now that the show is going towards the finale and it might take a leap of decades. While any episode might surprise fans with the leap, the world affected by the virus will allow the creative freedom that will ensure the show turns out to be more complex with the uncertainty of the storyline.

This additional layer of storyline introduced in the core plot will be interesting to watch. However, fans are excited to know how to creators are going to feature coronavirus in the series. Normally, the series usually start shooting in July but during the ongoing crisis, Fogelman answered the speculations among the fans about the fifth season filming.

The writer confessed that there is no confirmation at the beginning of the production for the upcoming season. While the writer confirmed the production date is not confirmed, it is understood that premiere dates will also be pushed further than usual.

However, NBC has not changed the timing and days to telecast the series. This Is Us is still slated to premiere every Tuesday. Fogelman confirmed that the extra layer of the pandemic in the series won't change the ending of the show.

He addressed that fans were left with several queries in the previous season. “We’re keeping up the momentum, for sure. Our show is at our best when we’re talking about real-life things that real-life people are going through that are hard and that are not going away anytime soon," Justin Hartley confirmed in an interview with ET.
