Carl Reiner was a versatile talent who was an actor, director, producer, and writer who was a part of the legendary team of Sid Ceasar and created The Dick Van Dyke Show and went on to direct several movies has passed away at the age of 98.

The creator died on June 30 due to natural causes at his home in Beverly Hills. Reiner's assistant named Judy Nagy confirmed the news. The Man with Two Brains director was nine Emmy award winner while five of them were received for The Dick Van Dyke Show.

Reiner, the father of activist and filmmaker Rob Reiner made some of the most popular movies include The Jerk with Steve Martin in 1979, Oh God starring George Burns in 1977, and All of Me with Lily Tomlin and Martin in 1984.

Rob Reiner took social media to express his feelings and tweeted, “Last night my dad passed away. As I write this my heart is hurting. He was my guiding light.” In later years of his career, he was known as an elder statesman of comedy, respected for his versatility as a multi-hyphenate and performer.

Reiner adapted social media well and maintained his presence on social media until the last day of his life. He was open about his opposition towards President Donald Trump. The actor remained public with his role in popular movies such as Ocean’s Eleven series, a recurring character on television shows such as Two and a Half Men and Hot in Cleveland throughout his 80s and 90s.

In 2017, Reiner featured with his frequent comedy associates, Norman Lear, Mel Brooks, Kirk Douglas, and many other Hollywood legends in If You’re Not in the Obit, Eat Breakfast HBO documentary. In this one hour and twenty-six minutes long documentary, they examined the secrets of existence in this frequently changing business.

Reiner became prominence as a regular member of Sid Ceasar's cast called Your Show of Shows and in 1956 and 1957 he won two Emmy awards for that in supporting category. During Ceasar time he met Brooks and since then, they both had a long-term friendship and created sketches together as a comedy partner through the 2000 Year Old Man.

Reiner was born in the Bronx and graduated at the age of 16 from high school. He worked as a machinist while he was simultaneously studying acting. In 1995, he received a lifetime achievement award at Writers Guild’s Laurel Award for his career in television writing.
