Film, stage, and television icon Dame Angela Lansbury passed away “peacefully” on Tuesday. She was 96.

BBC said the actress, who was born in 1925, was one of the last surviving stars of the Golden Age of Hollywood cinema. It also noted that she had a nearly eight-decade career, with numerous film, theater, and television credits under her name.

The publication shared that the “Murder, She Wrote” actress’s passing was announced by her family in a statement, which read, “The children of Dame Angela Lansbury are sad to announce that their mother died peacefully in her sleep at home in Los Angeles.”

The statement also revealed that Dame Angela passed away “just five days shy of her 97th birthday,” per the publication.

People released a similar report covering the matter. It included in its piece, published Tuesday, a statement it obtained from the “Beauty and the Beast” voice actress’s family.

Alongside the announcement of Dame Angela Lansbury’s passing, the said statement also shared that she is survived by her three children, three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren, plus her brother, producer Edgar Lansbury.

The statement added, as well, that the “Gaslight” actress was “proceeded in death by her husband of 53 years, Peter Shaw,” as per the magazine.

In the end, it is said that “a private family ceremony will be held at a date to be determined.”

Deadline, in its report published on the same day, noted that Dame Angela had one of the longest and most acclaimed careers in the acting space, both in Hollywood and New York.

Television fans are said to have known her as the star of “Murder, She Wrote,” for which she received Emmy nominations for each of the material’s 12 seasons. As for Broadway fans, the outlet noted that she is known to them as Auntie Mame.

The publication continued that Angela Lansbury is also known to film lovers for her performances in various titles, including “Beauty and the Beast,” “Gaslight,” and “The Manchurian Candidate.”

Meanwhile, BBC recalled some of the accolades Dame Angela had obtained over the years.

Following her first role in the 1944 film, “Gaslight,” she is said to have earned an Oscar nomination for best supporting actress. She landed two more nominations in the years that followed for her performances in “The Picture of Dorian Gray” and “The Manchurian Candidate,” as per the publication.

Dame Angela Lansbury is also said to have won several Tony Awards following her Broadway performances.

In 2002, Dame Angela received a lifetime achievement award from Bafta. About 11 years later, she obtained an honorary Oscar for lifetime achievement.

In 2014, BBC noted she was made a Dame for her services to drama, charitable work, and philanthropy.
