Olivia Wilde broke her silence regarding the custody battle between her and Jason Sudeikis.

In a cover story for Variety, published Wednesday, the “Don’t Worry Darling” director addressed the infamous moment she received the legal documents at CinemaCon. While promoting her new material on stage, she was handed the custody papers from the father of her children.

Wilde said she “hated” how “this nastiness distracted from the work of so many different people and the studio that I was up there representing.” She noted that trying to “sabotage” that moment “was really vicious.”

The “In Time” actress argued, however, that she is “not easily distracted,” adding that she “had a job to do.”

In the end, though, she claimed that it was not “entirely surprising” to her, noting that “there’s a reason [she] left that relationship.”

During the exchange, Olivia Wilde did not name Jason Sudeikis, with whom she shares two children. They were together from 2011 to 2020 and were engaged for most of it.

While the actress said it did not surprise her entirely, she admitted feeling upset about what happened.

Us Weekly quoted Wilde’s statements in the interview, saying, “It was my workplace. In any other workplace, it would be seen as an attack. It was really upsetting. It should not have been able to happen.”

The “Lazarus Effect” star explained that it was “scary,” considering that it “was a huge breach in security.” She claimed it “was something that required forethought” because of all the “hurdles that you had to jump thought to get into that room with several badges, plus special COVID tests that had to be taken days in advance, which gave you wristbands that were necessary to gain access to the event."

But for Olivia Wilde, it was only her and Jason Sudeikis’ children who “suffered,” adding that “it was appalling” and “sad” that the “victims were an 8- and 5-year-old.”

The actress/director noted that with what happened, the children “will have to see that, and they should not ever have to know” it occurred. But while she “chose to become an actress” and “willingly walked into the spotlight,” she said “it is not something [her] children have asked for,” adding that “it is deeply painful” for her when her kids “are dragged into it.”

Reportedly, this is not the first time Olivia Wilde addressed the infamous CinemaCon incident. Mail Online said she referenced what happened for the first time in her court filings to dismiss the motion.

The outlet quoted the actress’s statements in the documents, writing, “Jason’s actions were clearly intended to threaten me and catch me off guard. He could have served me discreetly, but instead he chose to serve me in the most aggressive manner possible.”

It continues, “The fact that Jason would embarrass me professionally and put our personal conflict on display in this manner is extremely contrary to our children’s best interests.”
