Prince Charles reportedly wants to have a slimmed-down monarchy when he’s king.

According to Express, one of the repercussions for Prince Charles’ desire is for some members of the royal family to lose their titles.

The publication claimed that Prince Charles could also follow the lead of other European families in deciding how to run The Firm when he ascends the throne.

Last year, the Swedish royal family announced that the royal titles from the king’s grandchildren will be removed. The five grandchildren that lost their royal titles no longer have to perform official duties in the future. They aren’t also entitled to receive taxpayer funding or appanage.

However, the king’s grandchildren who are directly in line with the throne managed to keep their royal titles.

If Prince Charles will follow this example, it is possible for him to retain the royal titles of Prince William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

However, the other royals that will be born in the future may no longer have royal titles.

As of late, there are some royals that don’t have official titles. For instance, Princess Anne’s children are not known as prince and princess.

Following their birth, Princess Anne decided to refuse the titles that were being given to them by Queen Elizabeth. After all, the mom of two wanted her kids to grow up with a normal life.

Prince Edward followed in his sister’s footsteps when he decided to not accept the royal titles for his daughter and son. As such, Prince Edward’s daughter is styled as Lady Louise Windsor, while his son is styled as James, Viscount Severn.

Prince Charles accepted the royal titles for his sons because they are direct heirs to the throne. As such, Prince William and Prince Harry are known as such. When they tied the knot, the Queen gave them different royal titles.

At present, Prince William is also known as the Duke of Cambridge. Prince Harry, on the other hand, is known as the Duke of Sussex.

Prince Andrew also accepted the royal titles for his daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. However, the Duke of York received backlash for doing so.

Some royal critics claimed that Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are undeserving of their titles because they are minor royals. As such, they do not directly work for the Queen.

But with Prince Harry and Markle’s recent Megxit, it is possible for Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie to step up their royal duties.
