Cody Simpson and Miley Cyrus have remained tight-lipped about their breakup in 2020. But, the former recently touched on the subject and opened up about the details of the split.

Page Six said that the “On My Mind” singer made the revelations on Tuesday’s episode of the “Kyle and Jackie O” podcast. He stated that their lives were headed to “different places,” adding that it was a “mutual decision” between him and the “Slide Away” artist.

Simpson explained that he was heading to Australia at the time for his swimming training. He was hoping to make it to the Olympics, noting that moving back to his home country was for him to do his practice “properly and professionally.”

The 25-year-old artist continued that Cyrus “was just going into her whole new album” and “was gonna be going out on tour.” Accordingly, “it was a fork-in-the-road kind of scenario.”

People noted that Cody Simpson is a competitive swimmer, who previously trained to compete for Australia in the Olympics. He did not, however, qualify for Tokyo, although he is currently training for the upcoming 2024 Games in Paris.

As for Miley Cyrus, she dropped her latest album, “Plastic Hearts,” in November 2020.

The “Surfers Paradise” artist once talked about the split about a year ago. E! News said he shared a “rare insight” into why the relationship with the “Wrecking Ball” singer ended in mid-2020.

Speaking to “Australia’s 60 Minutes,” Simpson revealed that he and his former girlfriend felt their romance “had run its course.” He noted that they have known each other for a long time, adding that they “went from being good friends, to just having a lot of the same friends, to being together for a while.”

The artist, also, stated that “everything ended fairly amicably” between him and the “Hannah Montana” star. He consequently asserted that “it was just one of those phases” that one goes through and “you learn a lot from it.”

In August 2020, Miley Cyrus, for her part, seemingly confirmed the breakup during an Instagram Live session. BuzzFeed said that it came days after the split speculations first emerged across media platforms.

During the engagement, the songstress pointed out that “two halves can’t make a whole.” She, also, stated that they are “individually just working on [themselves] to become the people [who] they want to be, like everybody else at this age.”

Cyrus, later on, shared that they are “deciding” who they want to be in their lives, as well as the things they want to do. She, then, warned not to “make it some drama story” if, the following week, she and her former boyfriend would hang out.

The two singers formed their close friendship several years before they started dating. They appeared to have begun their romance in October 2019, months after the songstress's divorce from Liam Hemsworth.
