Hannah Brown, the titular Bachelorette in the 15th season of the reality show, has come out and apologized for using a racist slur on her Instagram account.

As reported by E! Online, Brown posted her apology on her Instagram Stories, saying that there is no excuse and no justification for her to use the n-word slur. She also said that she has been reading the messages that people have been sending her and that she has seen how she has hurt people.

The entire brouhaha began when Brown posted an Instagram Live of herself singing DaBaby’s “Rockstar,” which has a line that includes the racist slur. When users began to call her out on it, she denied ever having said it and tried to deflect the blame onto her brother, Patrick.

However, fans continued to insist that she said the word, and after a few back and forth conversations with the fans, Brown insisted that she did not say the n-word and even if she did so accidentally, it was only because she was singing a song and not really thinking about it.

Unfortunately, fans were not appeased. Glamour collected the various reactions from Brown’s followers as well as reactions from Twitter, which emphasized that Brown should not have said the word under any circumstance.

One Twitter user, for instance, called Brown and her friend’s attempt at deflecting the blame to her brother as “beyond impermissible.” The user called on Brown to actually address the situation.

Another user addressed the excuse going around amongst fans that Brown had only said it because she was drunk. According to the user, she has had plenty of experience being drunk herself but that drunkenness is no excuse to use the racist slur.

Yet another Twitter user professed to be a fan of Brown, but expressed her disappointment at the way she initially dealt with the controversy. The user remarked that racism is not a laughing matter and not something you joke about on Instagram.

Before becoming the star of the 15th season of “The Bachelorette,” Brown was in the top ten of the 23rd season of “The Bachelor.” After her stints on “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette,” Brown competed in “Dancing with the Stars.” Together with her partner Alan Bersten, Brown went on to win the 28th season of the show.

Brown is just the latest “The Bachelor” alumni to grab attention during the global coronavirus pandemic. Last month, “The Bachelor” alums Victoria Fuller and Chris Soules were speculated to be dating. The couple was reportedly spending isolation together for a week in Iowa.
