Prince Harry used to be jealous of Prince William because he’s the heir. But it was recently revealed that the Duke of Cambridge was also jealous of his brother.
While speaking with Entertainment Tonight, royal author Robert Lacey said that Prince William struggled with the pressure of being heir to the throne.
Lacey spoke with former royal protection officer Ken Wharfe, who told him that Prince William was always sort of jealous of his younger brother’s lovable rogue reputation and the affection that he generated from the public.
There are also claims that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are also jealous of Prince Harry and Markle’s popularity and the fact that they were overshadowed. As such, Prince William and Middleton are quite happy that Prince Harry and Markle are out of the country.
Meanwhile, Lacey also said that Prince William used to be very protective of Prince Harry. When he was younger, Prince William had the same urge as Princess Diana to protect Prince Harry.
Prince William was also Prince Harry’s shoulder to cry on. However, protecting Prince Harry also made Prince William feel that this robbed him of his youth. Lacey also said that Prince William’s sense of responsibility for Prince Harry also robbed him of his childhood's carefree nature.
And this is one of the reasons why Prince William hasn’t told Prince George that he will become king one day. After all, he didn’t want his son to feel the pressure that he felt while he was growing up.
When asked if he thinks the siblings will still reunite one day, Lacey admitted that he’s doubtful about the idea.
He said that everyone should come to terms with the fact that Prince William and Prince Harry are already leading two very different lives. And their supporters can only hope that they’d maintain their love and respect for each other regardless if they reunite or not.
In related news, Lacey wrote in the Battle of Brothers that Prince William and Prince Harry’s rift intensified after the latter dated Meghan Markle. After all, the second in line to the throne was worried that Prince Harry didn’t know Markle that well or that she could be like the other women that only used his brother because of his royal status.
