Saying goodbye to the Marvel Cinematic Universe is not entirely difficult for Dave Bautista. He shared that while he loves his character, Drax, there is a "relief" in knowing that playing the character will soon be over.
The 53-year-old actor revealed his thoughts on the matter during an interview with GQ Hype. He talked about his time playing the character in the MCU, especially in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” franchise ahead of its return to the big screens for its third installment.
Bautista stated in the exchange that he is “so grateful for Drax,” adding that he loves the character. He noted, however, that “there’s a relief [that it’s over]” as “it wasn’t all pleasant.”
The retired professional wrestler explained that “it was hard playing” the role of Drax. He added, “the makeup process was beating me down.”
Dave Bautista later on continued, “I just don’t know if I want Drax to be my legacy-it’s a silly performance, and I want to do more dramatic stuff.”
Aside from doing “more dramatic” materials, the Marvel actor wants to work with Denis Villeneuve again. The publication noted that he is the filmmaker who has led the former wrestler on the “Dune” films and “Blade Runner 2049.”
Bautista told the outlet that if he “could be a number one [on the callsheet] with Denis,” he “would do it for f***ing free.” It comes as he believes it is “how I could find out how good I could be,” sharing in the exchange that the filmmaker “brings out the best in me.”
The “My Spy” star continued that Villeneuve sees him “in a different light,” and “the performer” that he wants to become. In the end, he noted, “that might be how I solve the puzzle.”
People shared in a recent report, covering the exchange with GQ Hype, that Dave Bautista revealed in the interview that he is not after fame or awards. As pointed out, the actor’s interest lies in wanting to continue to improve in the acting space.
The magazine later quoted the Marvel actor from the interview, published Wednesday, saying in part, “I just want to be a good f***ing actor. A respected actor.”
It continues, “Honestly, I could give a f--- [about being a movie star]. I don't live a great big glamorous life. I live here in Tampa. I don't care about the spotlight. I don't care about fame. I just want to be a better actor. I want respect from my peers. I don't need accolades — I really don't, man. It's about the experience, about knowing that I accomplished something.”
