Meghan Markle and Prince Harry stepped down as senior members of the Royal Family in 2020. After announcing their departure from the Firm, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that they’re moving from the United Kingdom to the United States to begin a new life. But, due to the recent controversies involving them, a commentator said that Americans have different opinions on the couple.

According to American commentator Megyn Kelly, the divided opinion towards Markle and Prince Harry in the US is more political-related.

In an interview with GB News, she told journalist Dan Wootton that Republicans are “sick and tired” of the Sussexes. She said that the couple lost the support of the majority after naming their second child, Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor.

"Are the people in the US believing Meghan Markle, are they buying her stories? We hear again now that there is this conjecture about whether she actually made this call to the Queen,” Wootton added to Kelly’s statement.

The commentator explained that the support the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been receiving in the US is linked to “political alignment” than in the UK.

She said that while Americans are more supportive compared to the Brits, their opinion still comes down on their political beliefs. She also mentioned the differences between Republicans and Democrats.

Kelly said Republicans have had enough of the couple’s “nonsense,” while Democrats love them because they talk about their mental health all the time. Then, she goes on to discuss Markle and Prince Harry’s decision to name their second child after Queen Elizabeth II, whose nickname was Lilibet during her childhood days. The choice of the Sussexes was heavily criticized.

The commentator wondered why the two choose Lilibet for their first daughter, considering the allegations they made against the Firm in the past few months. She questioned whether or not their previous claims were true – which includes bullying and racist remark that made towards their firstborn, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

Kelly concluded her statement by saying Markle and Prince Harry should’ve just chosen Diana rather than adding the name Lilibet. She said that the Sussexes called the Royal Family “racist” and described their time in the Firm as “living in a prison.” Now, many were confused on why they suddenly named their second born in honor of Her Majesty.

In previous reports, the couple allegedly didn’t ask Queen Elizabeth II’s permission that they’re using the name Lilibet for their second child. This news first emerged after BBC reported Markle and Prince Harry never consulted Her Majesty about it. Yet, the couple denied the claims and their representative confirmed the two told the Monarch they’ll be using her intimate nickname.
