The unprecedented coronavirus pandemic claimed over 70,000 lives in the United States, slowing down the once soaring economy and shows no signs of coming to an end. Democrats who accuse Trump's ineffective leadership of destroying the nation's economy are teeming with confidence that they can seize the Senate after being demoted to the minority for six years.

But a large number of GOP senators running for reelection seem to have realized that there's no point in ditching the president, particularly after seeing some Republican failing terribly at the ballot box despite adopting such a strategy. Moreover, with the possibility of economy recovering, coupled with the virus disappearing by the fall, Republicans could cash in on Trump's support.

This is a clear indication that Trump has considerable control over his party, and that Republicans associate their political success with the president's successfulness, amid a worldwide pandemic that is likely to dominate not only the presidential race but also the battle for the Senate over the next several months, Politico reported.

Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.), whose race is likely to play a vital role in deciding the Senate, said people in America may not vote with the existing pattern of 2,000 deaths a day, and unending quarantines in mind. He claims lives across the nation will return to normal by Aug.

He assured there will be numerous tests and antibody tests with good reports on the beginnings of the economic progress. Aside from that, Tillis admitted that it will benefit Trump and benefit him as well. Keeping in line with that, Republicans are understandably all praises for Trump's decision to ban travel to China early and how he is bent on eliminating the disease.

Gearing up for a tough election race in Iowa, GOP Sen. Joni Ernst said he feels the president did a very good job. Aside from that, Ernst points out that Trump decided to prohibit travel from certain countries and took several other measures at the right time to restrict the spread of coronavirus. " I think it was the right thing to do,” he added.

Sen. David Perdue (R-Ga.) says Trump showed tremendous leadership during the whole process, consulted experts, and followed their guidelines. Perdue's is often considered as fertile ground by Democrats. Trump's approval ratings haven't dropped amid the coronavirus pandemic with Gallup showing him close to 50 percent recently. Several other polls suggest Americans deem his guidance during the crisis as dangerous.
