The valets comprise elite military unit members who serve the White House and work closely with the president and the rest of the first family members. A source told CNN that Trump was understandably upset after learning that the valet had tested positive. Following the news, the POTUS was tested again by the House physician.

Confirming CNN's report, the White House released a statement saying that one of Trump's staffers had tested positive for the deadly virus. In a statement, Deputy White House press secretary Hogan Gidley said they were recently informed by the White House Medical Unit that a U.S. Military member who works on the White House campus has tested positive.

Both the president, as well as the vice president were tested and were found to be in great health. Valets assist the president and first family with a wide range of personal tasks such as the president's food and beverage in the West Wing and also accompany him when he is on the road or traveling out of the country.

The valets have not only handled these tasks but also served as confidants for past presidents. They have a closer view of the president's personal life like few others. A White House source said the man, who hasn't been identified yet, showed symptoms on Apr. 6, adding that reports about someone close to Trump testing positive for coronavirus began doing the rounds in the West Wing.

A self-proclaimed germaphobe, Trump has scolded aides in the past for coughing or sneezing in his presence. Moreover, the president claims he rarely gets sick himself. Vice President Mike Pence and a slew of other senior staffers who interact with them on almost a daily basis have been tested for coronavirus every week, two sources told CNN.

On Apr. 7, Trump told reporters that he will be getting tested for coronavirus daily, adding that there were a few days missed between when the valet was last tested and when it was discovered that he had coronavirus. This US military member who tested positive was not in frequent contact with the president, who deemed the situation "a little bit strange."

The White House adopts the rapid Abbott Labs test, which delivers results in just about 15 minutes. Officials who underwent the test revealed that it is usually carried out in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, next door to the West Wing on the White House grounds. A medical official swabs nostrils of the staffers and tells them they'd be notified if they test positive with the next few minutes.
