Gerry and the Pacemakers group's lead singer, Gerry Marsden, passed away at the age of 78. The singer's You'll Never Walk Alone version is well-known for becoming football's anthem in Liverpool. The achievements of the singer have been larger than life, while his family confirmed that his death has no connection with the ongoing pandemic.

Daughter of Marsden, Yvette Marbeck, revealed that she went to the hospital on Boxing Day following his test. She disclosed that the reports found a serious blood infection in his body, which went to his heart.

Yvette further said that the illness was there for a really short time, and she won't be able to comprehend. Moreover, she said that her father died in the hospital and stated that her father was a funny and warm person to hang around.

Marsden's musical group was one of the most successful bands in the Merseybeat era. They were the first band to have their initial three musical hits at the top of the chart in 1963, including How Do You Do It, and I Like It along with You’ll Never Walk Alone. In fact, their most popular song, Ferry Cross The Mersey, became another hit in 1964, while Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying was also released in the same year.

Another reason for the song being popular was that he wrote the track himself as a tribute to his city. It marked spot number eight on the top chart list. Moreover, Marsden also earned the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire honor in 2003 for his work towards charity following his support to the Hillsborough disaster victims.

After receiving the honor, the musician confessed that he was on cloud nine and kept on supporting various charities. Liverpool FC's official handle on Twitter posted a tribute for the late musician. The football club wrote that it was "great sadness" to hear about the singer's passing.

However, they noted that the song You'll Never Walk Alone will stay with them forever. The singer's friend and Radio presenter, Pete Price, also took Instagram to pay a heartfelt tribute. The 74-year-old presenter said that he is sending love to his family and they will never walk alone, referring to the popular song.

Marsden's group parted their ways back in 1967, and he pursued his career with solo performances. Marsden shares two daughters with his wife, Pauline Marsden, and they tied the knot in 1965 when the singer was at the peak of his career.
