It is no shock that a majority of British citizens want Prince William to take over the throne after Queen Elizabeth II’s reign is over. Despite William being the second-in-line to the throne, his popularity has well overtaken his father’s, which has put a lot of pressure on the Palace.

In a new poll commissioned by YouGov regarding the real sentiments of the Britons as to who should be the King, it shows that the approval ratings of Prince Charles have fallen significantly.

These past five months, the heir apparent’s popularity has gone down five points, from 37 to 32, while Prince William’s increased by 2 points.

Apparently, a major reason for the sudden decrease in popularity for Prince Charles is caused by Netflix’s portrayal of him on ‘The Crown’, as well as his affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles during his marriage to the late Princess Diana.

The possibility of Queen Elizabeth passing the crown to Prince William is viable, but there are slim chances this would actually happen.

The royal constitution takes the accession of a royal to the throne very seriously, and it is not a popularity contest. Unfortunately for Prince Charles, his reign may not be as welcomed as Prince Williams and as loved as Queen Elizabeth’s.

Furthermore, ‘The Crown’ has depicted Prince Charles and Camilla being very cruel to Princess Diana, which added fuel to the fire.

There have been rumors circulating in the past months that Her Majesty will be stepping down from her royal role when she turns 95 in 2021.

This has been a subject of great debate between royal experts as many believe that there are signs pointing to this decision, while others lay waste to these claims.

Royal commentator Robert Jobson firmly deems that the Queen will step down next year. “I still firmly believe when the Queen becomes 95, that she will step down,” Jobson said.

The Palace has not yet commented on these allegations regarding the accession of Prince Charles or that of Prince William, and it is unlikely that they will address this issue.

Both Prince Charles and Prince William have been stepping in for the Queen this year as Her Majesty is in a very vulnerable state, and with the Covid pandemic still going on, the safety of the Queen is a priority.

The Royal Family did show a picture of solidarity last week after Prince William and Kate Middleton’s three-day tour of Britain, Scotland, and Wales was over. Joining them was the Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, and Camilla Parker-Bowles, and Prince Edward and Sophie Wessex.
