Cheryl Burke reflected on her past relationships and how abusive they were. In fact, the Dancing With the Stars pro said that she started to assume that every relationship is supposed to be abusive. However, the 36-year-old star admitted that her husband, Matthew Lawrence, broke the pattern and made her realized that it’s not always that bad.

The professional dancer revealed in her YouTube video that she was abused sexually as a young girl, and she became addicted to toxic men. In the 17-minute-long video, the star said that she had her first relationship at the age of 13, and since then, she has created a pattern of doing things really quickly.

She further confessed that she got physical with her first boyfriend because she thought that's the only way to keep a person in her life. Moreover, Burke said that she had a similar idea throughout her teenage and early 20s.

"While there was nothing that I would say was abusive at all about that relationship, I definitely think that experience set me up to really just stick with a pattern of moving just way too fast,” she admitted. However, she said that after a point, she refused to get physical with her boyfriend, but he did it forcefully.

Burke also reflected on the abusive relationships she had in high school and said that she had become a self-assured person today. She mentioned her parents’ traumatic divorce while being trained to compete in a man's world through ballroom dancing and being abused.

She admitted that she just followed the path that she was shown at that age. Moreover, Burke said that she started to see the disconnect between love and physical intimacy. Meanwhile, she also started consuming a lot of alcohol that became a problem for her.

Much later, she started to date Lawrence in 2007, and she noticed the change in the pattern. She acknowledged the new pattern her now-husband created for her while dating, and it wasn't abusive at all. She stated in the video that she never really loved herself before she met Lawrence.

Burke said that her husband made her realize that she needs to love herself enough, and she deserves someone who is nice towards her. She said that Lawrence became her "get out of the jail card" as he had already been to many L.A. parties and grew up in the entertainment industry.
