Lena Waithe and her wife Alana Mayo actually split up all the way back in January, but Mayo is now taking the next step and actually filing for divorce from Waithe at the Los Angeles Superior Court.

Page Six reports that the 35-year-old Mayo filed the petition for divorce earlier this week. This month also marks what would have been the first anniversary of their secret wedding. The couple got married at a San Francisco courthouse.

In a television interview, the 36-year-old Waithe said the marriage was “snuck in.” No announcements were made beforehand, and neither one of them had wanted the ceremony to be a big event.

People recounts that when the couple announced their separation back in January, they also put out a statement affirming their support for each other as well as calling on the public to respect their privacy.

The publication also recounted Waithe and Mayo’s relationship, saying that the two got engaged back in 2017 after a trip to Tokyo. Waithe also credited Mayo for keeping her humble and grounded, saying that Mayo still makes her do chores even after winning an Emmy.

Waithe and Mayo’s divorce is just the latest one to happen this year. Just recently, actors Clark Gregg and Jennifer Grey agreed on the terms of their divorce, with Grey getting to keep the residuals from Dirty Dancing and Dirty Dancing 2: Havana Nights.

Aside from those movies, Grey will also get half of what Gregg has earned playing the character Agent Coulson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Grey will also be getting 10 percent of what Gregg earns as Agent Coulson if he continues to portray him in feature films. If Gregg portrays Agent Coulson again on television, Grey will get five percent of his earnings.

Just like Mayo and Waithe, Gregg and Grey put out a joint statement announcing their separation. On their Instagram accounts, both actors said that they still cared for and loved each other and that the decision to separate was an amicable one.

Another couple that is undergoing divorce proceedings at the moment is reality television star Erika Jayne and entertainment attorney Tom Girardi. While details of the separation have mostly been kept private, court filings show Jayne has asked Girardi to pay for her attorney’s fees as well as possibly claiming a number of their properties.

Back in September, musician Ray J filed for divorce from his wife, Princess Love. Love had earlier filed for divorce from Ray J but had withdrawn the filing back in July of this year.

Comedian Tracy Morgan also ended his five-year marriage with his wife, Megan Wollover, this year.
