Dr. Anthony Fauci is the country's leading authority to speak on infectious diseases, while Sharon Stone has been actively spreading awareness related to HIV. Dr. Fauci and Stone are going to be honored at Research in Action Awards virtually through Treatment Action Group.

The event ensures to acknowledge the hard-working and influential people who have worked towards ending the infectious diseases. The organization has held the event on Nov. 19 to acknowledge people working on COVID-19, hepatitis, tuberculosis, and HIV.

The 62-year-old actress has been actively participating in HIV-related organizations because of which she will be honored with a lifetime achievement award for working with amfAR in AIDS advocacy. Dr. Fauci, the U.S. National Institutes of Health's National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director, will also receive an award for his leadership and give public health guidance during the pandemic.

The 79-year-old physician has fought many other public health crises before fighting against the coronavirus such as H1N1, Zika, Ebola, SARS, the West Nile virus, and HIV/AIDS over five decades. During a recent interview with USA Today, Dr. Fauci was asked what made him realize that this wasn't something that would pass easily.

The physician responded that it all started gradually when he noticed that the government in China soon started to build hospitals overnight. It was a clear indication that this will worsen. Once the doctors realized that it is a community spread virus, he knew that this is going to last for a long time.

He also shed light on the upcoming thanksgiving dinner where people are willing to take risks with their own families. He further explained that every individual needs to assess his/her own family unit and try to avoid big gatherings.

Dr. Fauci will also be a headline speaker next year in an event slated on Feb. 17 at the 2021 Mansfield Lecture in Montana. He will address the challenges of the vaccine while the current state of the COVID-19 through zoom call.

In a webinar, he admitted that the United States is the only country that has been hit really hard with the coronavirus outbreak. Dr. Fauci noted that globally there are 1.3 million deaths and 56 million cases while the U.S. recorded 245,000 deaths and 11 million cases.

“We are in the process of another resurgence as we enter the colder months,” he added. A couple of weeks ago, Stone was one of the popular faces who honored the physician during the America Medals ceremony of Samuel J. Heyman Service that gave him the Federal Employee of the Year award.
