Jaden Smith appears to be in hot water after his choice of Halloween costume caused a massive uproar on social media. Smith was seen in a costume, wherein his face was covered by an oxygen mask while attending Kendall Jenner’s birthday bash this Saturday.

The 22-year-old actor was invited to the supermodel’s birthday bash and he sported an oxygen mask at the party amid the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak. His choice of costume evoked a mixed reaction among the netizens.

Although her big sister faced huge criticism for her lavish birthday celebrations some days ago, Jenner hosted a combined Halloween and an advance birthday party on Saturday. Many mentioned that the guests did not follow social media norms, while only a handful of them was in their masks.

Smith was seen hanging around with Justin Bieber in the party with his oxygen mask on, Daily Mail reports. Many pointed out that the costume was “inappropriate” when the whole world is battling against the deadly pandemic.

Some social media followers even alleged that the actor was dressed up as a COVID patient at Jenner’s party. However, others said that his costume was inspired by the character of John David Washington in the film Tenet, Metro reports.

The protagonist in this sci-fi thriller dons an oxygen mask so that he could survive while traveling across time.

A few users stated that he was mocking the pandemic, as well as people who had to be admitted to the hospitals because of the ailment. One of the users mentioned on social media that the way he wore an oxygen mark was “inhuman.”

However, it looks like Jaden Smith is not quite bothered about these criticisms. He is known to follow his own rules on most occasions and criticisms do not affect him much.

A user tweeted that if the actor’s costume was inspired by the film Tenet, apologies were in order. However, the netizen still felt it was “insensitive” on the part of the actor to dress up in such a fashion.

Another user thought the actor was “awful.” The netizen felt the actor did not know that it was no fun to wear an oxygen mask to breathe and criticized him for attending a party amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, Jaden Smith’s recent post on Instagram appeared to be a response to people who have been slamming him for his attire. The actor clarified that he was playing the role of the character of John David Washington from the movie Tenet. He also mentioned he had no intention of mocking the current global health crisis with his costume, the People magazine reports.
