Fans of the show already know that 'Riverdale' got renewed for a fifth season back in January. But because of the coronavirus pandemic, things may become a little bit more complicated.

The show is currently airing is the fourth season, but they have had to take a break again after a month-long hiatus. According to Express UK, the next episode of 'Riverdale' season 4 will be shown on April 29. On the Wikipedia page of the show, there will be another episode to be shown on May 6. The problem is that one season should have about 22 episodes. But sources have revealed that the production had to be shut down due to the pandemic. Apparently, the season will end with only 19 episodes instead of the 22 it should have had. The question now is whether they were able to shoot enough scenes to have an actual story and a believable ending to season 4.

This is what is going to complicate 'Riverdale' season 5. Cosmopolitan reports that the last three episodes that should have been shown in season 4 will be the first three episodes in season 5. Producers are not able to answer whether this means that season 5 will have more episodes.

The question now is when will it be shown. Typically, the next season should start in October 2020. But again, no one is shooting anything now due to the pandemic so we do not know just how long production will be delayed. Some are even saying that season 5 may actually be shown by next year, just to make sure that enough episodes have been shot.

Meanwhile, here are some of the rumored spoilers to expect in season 5 of 'Riverdale'. It was already reported in February that Skeet Ulrich and Marisol Nichols, who played Jughead's dad and Veronica's mom are leaving the series after season 4. With only two episodes left in the season, we still have to wait and see how they are planning to send off the two characters.

The four main characters are still staying for the next season, but it is now known how the dynamic between them will change especially with the attraction between Betty and Archie. There are some speculations that there might be another Sprouse in the next season. Some are saying that Dylan Sprouse might pay a visit to Riverdale and play Jughead's evil twin.

With the complications brought about by the coronavirus pandemic, the writers may be scrambling to change some details in the next season. We just have to wait until October or if worse comes to worst, 2021 to see how it will go.
