With Keeping Up With the Kardashians coming to an end next year, the Kardashian-Jenner clan is expected to no longer be subject to receiving backlash on social media platforms. Still, it looks like until then, the famous family will continue being subject to online trolling and criticism. Kim Kardashian faced strong criticism from her social media followers after posting several photos of her 40th birthday celebration amid a still raging pandemic, but her sister Khloe Kardashian addressed the strong negative reaction during her appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Making an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Thursday, Khloe opened up about her sister facing strong criticism over her luxury trip abroad, accompanied by 20 or 25 of her family and closest friends amid the ongoing global pandemic. The 36-year-old socialite admitted that she hasn't heard a lot about it but is aware that people were upset that they went out of town.

She started by noting that 2020 has been a frustrating year, with so many frustrations going on for people, noting that it was Kim's 40th birthday and this is something she really wanted to do. Khloe said it was a very nice thing for Kim's friends and family.

Taking to her Instagram account, the KKW Beauty founder shared a series of photos, which showed her maskless friends and family in close proximity. In the comments section of one of those photos, Kim clarified that she ensured that everyone on the trip quarantined and went through health screens before participating in her birthday bash, PEOPLE reported.

Before she surprised her closest inner circle with an unexpected trip to a private island, Kim said she asked them to quarantine and undergo multiple health screens for two weeks. She went on to say that they pretended that everything was normal for a short period at the private island.

The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star also pointed out that for most people, taking this kind of a break and celebrating a birthday is far out of reach at the moment, and moments like these remind her of how privileged her life is. As expected, the post triggered outrage on the internet amongst netizens who deemed the trip "selfish."

Some critics went as far as accusing Kim of not paying heed to the pandemic and its financial impact. One commenter said it was very selfish to show off the fun they had at the private island when people are dying and losing their jobs. In contrast, another commenter noted that elites neither have to worry about social distancing nor wearing masks.

Do you think the Kardashians should have avoided visiting an island for Kim’s birthday celebration, or at least followed COVID-19 safety guidelines there? Let us know in the comments section below.
