Donald Trump didn't quite shock the public when he announced on Friday that he and the first lady Melania Trump contracted the coronavirus, considering that he has refrained from wearing masks and even claimed that the virus would disappear during the initial stage of the pandemic. But this didn’t stop former presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton from extending their best wishes to the Trumps.

Obama and Clinton sent their best wishes to Donald and Melania Trump, following the president's announcement that he and his wife tested positive for COVID-19. Taking to his Twitter account on Friday, Clinton wished the Trumps and everyone exposed to the potentially deadly virus a speedy recovery.

Aside from the president and the first lady, Clinton wished speedy recovery and safety of the White House staff, the Secret Service, and those putting their lives on the line, in his tweet. Noting the pandemic has affected so many people, Clinton urged Americans to protect their families and communities.

Speaking supportively of Trump's personal health, Obama noted that the president underwent a dramatic turn of health on Friday. Obama tweeted that he and his wife Michelle want to ensure they acknowledge the president and the first lady at this difficult time. Furthermore, he said they hope the president and others affected by the deadly virus are getting the care they need.

During his appearance in a virtual fundraising event, Obama admitted that they are in the midst of a big political fight, which he said they take seriously; they wanted to extend their best wishes to the president of the United States, and the First Lady. This virtual fundraising event was also graced by a running mate, Sen. Kamala Harris, and actor Michael B. Jordan.

The former president's comments were originally shared on social media by NBC News White House correspondent Geoff Bennett. Campaign donors were not invited to this fundraising event. Obama also reminded everyone that despite being in the midst of big political battles with issues that have a lot at stake, that they are all Americans, and human beings, and want to make sure everybody is healthy.

Barack's well wishes came almost at the time when Trump was flown from the White House on Marine One to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center hospital, where officials say Trump was being taken out of an abundance of caution. Trump has blasted the former president multiple times through racist attacks about his birthplace and regularly blaming his predecessor for his own struggles in handling the coronavirus pandemic.
