Chadwick Boseman’s death continues to affect those he has worked with, moving them to memorialize him and celebrate his legacy. The most recent celebrity to do so is Boseman’s Black Panther co-star Lupita Nyong’o.

Variety reports that Nyong’o has posted about Boseman on her Instagram account, writing a lengthy caption alongside a photo of her and Boseman laughing. Using the hashtag  #TakeYourTimeButDontWasteYourTime, Nyong’o went on to speak at length about Boseman, the first time she has done so publicly.

In the caption, Nyong’o called Boseman “a man who had great hope.” She called Boseman’s passing a “punch to the gut” and said she was writing this tribute from a place of hopelessness. She praised Boseman’s “immortal” energy and described him as “ageless.”

CNN notes that Nyong’o also recalled being struck by Boseman’s quiet and powerful presence, enabling him to be fully present but also keenly aware of what lies in the future. Nyong’o said Boseman always had his game face on at every training and rehearsal.

Nyong’o also described Boseman’s generosity of spirit, which allowed for a working environment that was free of ego. She also said that Boseman always had a strong embrace and a warm gaze to spare.

Finally, Nyong’o declared that Boseman didn’t give up on life, but rather life was the one to give up on Boseman.

Before this post, Nyong’o was one of the Black Panther stars to be seen at the private memorial for Boseman. Michael B. Jordan and Winston Duke were also seen attending the memorial.

Jordan is also another Black Panther co-star that has memorialized Boseman on his Instagram page. He said that Boseman paved the way for him and acted as a big brother. Jordan said he had learned much from watching Boseman and promised to carry his legacy onwards.

Boseman’s death on Aug. 28 after a four-year battle with colon cancer came as a shock to many, especially since no one knew he was battling the disease. Apparently, the actor was undergoing chemotherapy and treatments in between making films. Before his death, Boseman was still able to complete 10 films.

Boseman’s death is just the latest to happen in 2020, with the global coronavirus pandemic causing the death of a number of musicians and actors. Some of the celebrity fatalities caused by the coronavirus include former Top Chef Masters winner Floyd Cardoz, Broadway star Mark Blum, and Fountains of Wayne co-founder Adam Schlesinger.
