Prince Harry and Meghan Markle recently purchased an over $14 million property in Santa Barbara.

A week later, a source told Us Weekly that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex paid for the property themselves. However, they also took out a huge loan to cover some of the costs.

But according to Heat UK, this isn’t entirely true. Even though there are reports that Prince Charles didn’t help his son and daughter-in-law financially, he actually did.

“Charles had been keen to help out and put his hand in his own pocket. He is devoted to both his sons and any time he can assist them, he always will,” the source said.

The tabloid claimed that Prince Charles helping to finance Prince Harry and Markle’s lavish home did not sit well with British taxpayers. After all, they still owe them millions following the renovation of Frogmore Cottage.

Prince Harry and Markle previously said that they are dedicated to paying what they owe the British taxpayers. And every month, they have, reportedly, arranged to pay over $23,000.

Critics of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are, reportedly, wondering why they didn’t pay their dues first before buying a home. But a source close to the couple said that Prince Harry and Markle couldn’t let the property go because it was a good deal.

The tabloid also said that Prince Charles's footing part of Prince Harry and Markle’s house contradicts what the Sussexes said earlier this year.

Following their decision to quit The Firm, Prince Harry and Markle said that they are working towards becoming more financially independent from the royal family.

“If Charles can buy a $14 million property for them, then he can well afford to write off taxpayers’ money. We want our money back now – not in monthly installments,” one British taxpayer said.

“They left the country – they need to fend for themselves. Also, how the hell did they get a mortgage? They don’t have jobs,” another source said.

A source told Us Weekly that Prince Harry refused to ask Prince Charles for financial help in his new house.

“Harry could’ve asked [Prince] Charles to contribute toward the cost of the house, but he chose not to... Getting his dad financially involved would result in the royals having control over him. It would mean going backward,” the source said.

As such, one should take the claims made by the tabloid with a grain of salt. Prince Harry and Markle are still working towards becoming more financially independent from the royal family.
