The originally planned subplot was supposed to feature a horse that would dive straight into the Niagara Falls and die in front of Jim and Pam's romantic boat ride. The Office fans need to thank Steve Carell for the popular mockumentary sitcom TV series not "jumping the shark" and ruin one of its most beloved episodes.

As per the latest book, The Office: The Untold Story of the Greatest Sitcom of the 2000s, which has been developed by the senior writer, Andy Greene from Rolling Stone and excerpted by Collider mentioned that initially, the subplot was planned for John Krasinski who played Jim's character and Jenna Fischer who played Pam's character to have the finale of season six a wedding episode.

The finale episode called "Niagara" which was divided into two episodes might have turned into a moment that ruined the series or may have taken it off the track. However, the Carell jumped into the scene to rescue the scene and voiced his concern for horse plunging to its death scene that was planned to shot in front of a romantic boat that Pam and Jim will take right after they get married.

As per the source, director of the episode Paul Feig said Green about Pam's ex played by David Denman will crash their wedding while riding a horse. Feig further explained that Roy's character was supposed to regret letting her lady go with Jim and in the middle of the ceremony, Roy would ride a horse inside the Church in a white knight's dress to get her back.

Additionally, the subplot had Rainn Wilson who played Dwight, an obsession about falls and suicide. However, the producer Randy Cordray confirmed that this subplot was finalized in the script before a week and the entire crew and cast traveled to Niagara Falls to shoot the scene.

Eventually, Welcome to Marwen star concerned during a table read to let go of the idea completely from the episode. Carell, 57, is the show's producer and he got say over writers hence he was the first one to notice and speak about the "jumping the shark", Cordray said.

While Carell admitted that it sounds funny and he loves the writing done, it seems to be an animated joke to him. He emphasized that it is a "cartoon joke". This kind of joke is easily accepted on shows such as The Simpsons while The Office has jumped the shark couple of times but he stood against throwing the horse over Niagara Falls, which eventually squashed the entire idea.
